Finally, Arima as a character resonates with me, whose particular struggles and friend dynamics are an interesting mirror which I see my own middle school and college self. It then swept me off my feet as a fan of classical music, with particular resonance in the plain message, “play from the heart,” a message that carried much of my desire to play piano. It first captured my heart as a fan of romantic comedies, as many people know I love to death. Kimiuso, despite all its flaws that I can understand, has captured my heart in more ways than one.
With this in mind, I am still set on covering this series. Although I have been largely ignorant of this battle in the first cour, I have spent the last few days reading up on the posts and comments made for episodes one through five, and I can see both sides of the issue in what has been a hot button show. I am also well aware that KimiUso has flaws in its execution, beating symbolism over one’s head, repeating dramatic moments over and over, as well as slowly suffering the A-1 Pictures curse of two-cour animation degradation. I am well aware that other bloggers have issues with the bullying, the domestic abuse, the sexism, and a continuing non-exhaustive list of the social implications of the story and its presentation, ranging from mild discomfort to outright disgust. But for certain, there is one thing I hope we all agree to start with:īy re-blogging this series, I am well aware of the controversy that surrounds this show.
Others will be in disgust, thoroughly disagreeing with the methods and overall message the show is delivering to its audience. Just like many of the pieces played within the series, there will be some who will be amazed by its performance. These are some of the qualities that Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso’s story brings to the table, bringing with it all the praise and criticism it receives.
Recklessness, lies, defiance, selfishness, and–at times–blinding passion.
